Description Technical Specs

Stelton, a manufacturer of household objects, famous for its elegant metal and plastic products was founded in 1960 in Hellerup, Denmark. They began manufacturing stainless steel containers (salsa, fountains, bowls, etc.) under the name of Dansk Rustfrit. Today, a company which only focus is the production of custom made stainless steel pressure tanks and equipment made to order and for industrial purposes only. In the early years, some of the products introduced, like the gravy boat were popular but their design was not particularly impressive. In 1964, with the aim of improving the image of the company, Peter Holmblad, convinced the architect and designer Arne Jacobsen to create a range of containers for the company. The first sketches of Jacobsen had cylindrical shapes but the technology to create these stainless steel products did not exist. Stelton had first to build new machines and develop new welding techniques to produce the Cylinda Line which was finally introduced in 1967. Cylinda line got an ID Prize in 1967. It was also awarded by the American Institute of Interior Designers in 1968. The Cylinda line initially had about 18 pieces but Jacobsen kept adding new items until 1971. Other designs were introduced posthumously and those were variations of Jacobsen iconic line, such us the adaptation made by Paul Smith for Stelton's 50th anniversary in 2010.
